Instructions - Sanggol Baby Sling
We hope that you are pleased with your Sanggol Baby Sling Wrap Carrier
To get the best from your Sling it is important that you know how to wear them properly, as well as the various ways of wearing them in order to get the full benefits for you and your baby.
Although a wrap looks a bit like origami at the beginning, after a few tries, you will find it easy and comfortable. Below are instructions for some popular ways to wrap your sling, but once you get the hang of it feel free to invent your own.
Your baby’s safety is your responsibility. Before trying on your new wrap sling, make sure your baby is relaxed. If need be, practise with a doll first. If your baby gets upset, try again later.
Once she is in, go for a little walk, babies tend to settle better that way.
Always secure your sling firmly with a double knot.
Always check your sling for any sign of wear. If you see any sign of wear or tear, stop using immediately.
Please use caution and common sense when carrying your child. Be aware of anything they can reach.
We strongly advise against kind of activity involving hot or sharp instruments while carrying your baby like cooking, ironing, consuming hot drinks, etc...
A sling is also not safe to use for strenuous physical activity.
Do not use the sling in place of a car seat.
The child’s position
The baby should be sitting at kiss-level, you just need to tilt your heat forward to kiss her forehead. Her bottom should not be lower than your navel. If she is too low, your back will ache.
She should be sitting in a frog-like position; her knees higher than her bottom. That way, there is no pressure on her spine.
The wrap needs to be tied more tightly than you would expect. The fabric has enough give in itself to mould around you and your baby.
If your back is aching, it’s probably not tight enough. For stretchy wraps, pull on the fabric as much as you can at each step until there is almost no stretch left.

Why wrap-around slings
A wrap sling is a long piece of material which is wrapped around the baby and the carer.
Because the principle is so simple, it is very versatile. You can use the same wrap from birth until about 2 or 3 years old.
The same wrap can fit people of different sizes. There are no buckles or straps and almost no sizing. Most carries spread the weight on both shoulders and close to your body making it a very comfortable way of carrying your child when they get heavier.
Not all Baby Wrap Sling Carriers are the same!
When selecting the right Baby Wrap | Baby Sling Carrier, be careful to select the best value. There are many baby wraps available online these days so it is easy to buy the wrong one so wasting money.
Questions to ask before you buy a Baby Wrap | Baby Sling Carrier
¨ Is it made of good quality fabric? Will it last long? Think about it. You want your baby wrap to last for as long as possible for the next child and the next. Even if you don’t want another child, you could pass on to a sibling or a friend.
¨ Is it long and wide enough for you and baby? – A long and wide baby wrap allows enough fabric to wrap around you and your baby and it allows your baby to sit comfortably in front or behind you in the wrap.
¨ Is the fabric sturdy with a little bit of stretch? – Baby wearing can be a stressful and uncomfortable business if you don’t have a sturdy fabric or the fabric is too stretchy, the baby won’t settle, and neither would you because you will spend half the time adjusting the fabric. Too little stretch and there will be no give to allow your baby to sit comfortably in the wrap so choose carefully.
¨ Can I use it as my baby grows? Also, you want your baby to grow into the excellent quality wrap so you need one that will carry your baby or infant from new-born to toddler stage. Baby wraps that carry your baby up to 16kg (around 2 – 3 years) are the best!
¨ Is the baby sling machine washable and will colours run? This is something else to consider especially if you do a lot of your washing in a washing machine. Remember, you get what you pay for. Pay a little bit extra to get a good quality cotton baby wrap which should not run or shrink in a wash. Remember to still wash dark colours separately.
¨ What about storage? Each time you finish with your baby wrap you want to store them away nicely and neatly. Also, when you are out and about, having a nice storage bag that will fit into your pram or stroller or your changing bag | diaper bag. A storage bag will act as protective cover for your wrap as well as allowing space for other items in your carriage or nursing bag. To ensure this is possible, buy a baby wrap sling that has a storage bag.
¨ Does it come with an instruction manual or can you find one easily? Using a baby wrap for the first time is a learning curve but it is made much easier to have a guide to go by. In fact, once you have an instruction manual, it becomes a doddle – honest. You only need to practice once or twice, and you are there! So, make sure that your baby wrap sling comes with an instruction manual. Just makes your life that much easier!
¨ Need a baby shower gift or new-born arrival gift? Baby Wraps are great for this. The new mum would love you each time she uses her baby wrap carrier. They are small and compact to wrap-up, and the best ones come in a sturdy box, making it easy to wrap up.
Age and weight guidelines
Age and weight are only a guideline. Depending on your own and your baby’s size, you may carry your child more or less than indicated.
Sanggol wraparound baby wearing slings can all be used from birth. Wraps are most comfortable up to 12kg - 26lb (18-24 months) while other wraps can be used up to 16kg (2-3-year-old).
Caring for your sling
Wash your wrap once before using. It is tempting to try the sling out as soon as you receive it. Wash it first, to make it easier to tie and more comfortable.
With the first wash, the fabric will often become grippier and achieve the nice give? which makes it comfortable.
Your sling will soften the more you use it, making it even easier to tie.
Wash bright colours separately at first. Wraps are best washed at 30oC or 40oC.
Do not bleach. Do not dry clean.
A few more tips
When learning to wrap your sling, choose a time when your baby is relaxed. Ask another adult to help you.
Use a mirror and a doll to practice different positions.
When your baby falls asleep, bring the fabric over her head to support it.
Check regularly that you are keeping your back straight while carrying your baby. Don’t bend.
Your baby will benefit from your body warmth, so you don’t need to dress them as warmly as in a buggy. But some warm socks or shoes are a must when it gets cold!
You may find it more comfortable to wear only a shirt or tee shirt and add other layers after having wrapped the sling.
